UNESCO and NORCAP reaffirm strong will to enhance partnership through strategic dialogue

On 2 December 2022, UNESCO and NORCAP held a partnership meeting to discuss their stand-by cooperation (deployment of personnel) and ways to enhance the partnership in a more strategic way. The meeting took place at a time when both UNESCO and NORCAP have renewed their respective medium-term strategies.

The world is changing, and so are UNESCO and NORCAP. With UNESCO’s new Medium-Term Strategy for 2022-2029, we aim to become a more effective and impactful organization at the country level. Building on our good collaboration and learning from each other, I hope that we will build a more strategic partnership that has a greater impact on the people we serve.

Julien Pellaux, Director of the Division for Partnerships, UNESCO

The meeting started with a strategic dialogue, followed by thematic exchanges on topics such as UNESCO’s action for Ukraine, freedom of expression and safety of journalists, education in emergencies, disaster risk reduction and water security. Opportunities to work jointly on the issue of climate change came up across different thematic sessions. UNESCO and NORCAP also discussed ways of engaging including stand-by collaboration (rapid deployment of experts on the ground), joint programming and fundraising.

I have witnessed a positive evolution of collaboration between NORCAP and UNESCO since the 90’s. We really appreciate an open dialogue with UNESCO which allows us to understand where we are at in our partnership and follow up for our future cooperation.
