Call for applications: International & National (Bangladesh) Mother Language Awards 2023

Mother language awards 2023 call for application

UNESCO believes everyone has the right to learn in their own language and that it is an important means to improving learning, learning outcomes and socio-emotional development. Education based on the first language or mother tongue, not only supports learning but plays a key role in building sustainable societies and the promotion of peace and respect for difference.

Every year on 21 February, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day, which was established at the initiative of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh by UNESCO’s General Conference in 1999. The Day is an essential platform to promote the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity, and multilingualism for peaceful and sustainable societies.

In the lead up to the 2023 International Mother Language Day, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the International Mother Language Institute, a UNESCO Category 2 Institute in Dhaka (Bangladesh), have initiated a call for applications for the “Mother Language National Award 2023" and the "Mother Language International Award 2023."

The deadline for applications is 31 August 2022.
