Regional Educational Information System for Students with Disabilities (SIRIED)

The Regional Information System for Education of Students with Disabilities (SIRIED) is a regional framework for monitoring and tracking indicators. It consists of an information system aiming to reflect the progress of the Latin American region in ensuring quality and inclusive education for students with disabilities. SIRIED incorporates both quantitative and qualitative indicators based on a methodological framework that guarantees comparability between countries. It is the result of collaborative work "by and with" the countries.

Our work

Following the Methodological Proposal made in 2011 and the first phase of application carried out in 2013 with various countries in the region, we are working on the update and implementation of the Regional Monitoring System for students with disabilities.

Our goal is to promote the generation of information and production of educational indicators that are relevant to the region, comparable, and periodically updated to improve the planning and provision of services linked to guaranteeing the right to education for children and young people with disabilities. We also promote the adjustment of the methodological framework of SIRIED, taking into consideration the conceptual framework of the Sustainable Development Goals in general and the Education Agenda 2030-SDG4 in particular.

We are also working on the implementation of a space for technical exchange with member countries of the Ibero-American Intergovernmental Network for Cooperation in the Education of People with Special Educational Needs (RIINEE) and we strengthen spaces for dialogue and the exchange of experiences in terms of generation and production of educational statistics aimed at guaranteeing the right to education for people with disabilities.

At the XVI Educational Cooperation Days with Ibero-America on Special Education and Educational Inclusion, held in May 2021 in a virtual format, representatives of the participating countries agreed to move forward in updating and consolidating the Information Registry Indicator System for Students with Disabilities (SIRIED), to contribute to decision-making and to demonstrate results. Likewise, they committed to forming a work team made up of at least four countries, coordinated by UNESCO Santiago, to review and update the methodological framework of SIRIED under the principles of the 2030 Agenda and prioritize indicators at a regional level that contribute to the monitoring and tracking of progress in SDG 4 and in the implementation of Article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
