UNESCO and RedR Australia hold a first-ever strategic dialogue

On 17 May 2022, UNESCO and RedR Australia held a high-level meeting to discuss their stand-by cooperation and map pathways for future collaboration on the deployment of experts. This was the first strategic dialogue since UNESCO and RedR Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding in December 2019.

RedR Australia is a partner of the Australian Government funded programme “Australia Assists” of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DAFT) which UNESCO has benefited from this rapid deployment mechanism to mobilise education experts in the Pacific and Africa and most recently in its Ukraine response.

Opening the meeting Jean-Yves Le Saux, Director of the Bureau of Strategic Planning said "We look forward to enhancing our partnership with RedR Australia in a strategic way by understanding with more granularity where share objectives and synergies lie."

“In times of crisis and conflict, we share UNESCO’s approach of humanitarian-development-peace nexus” responded Kerstin Sayers, CEO of RedR Australia, “and we are keen to continue our strategic dialogue to expand our areas of cooperation.”

During the meeting, UNESCO and RedR Australia discussed ways to enhance their partnership including the possibility of expanding areas of cooperation on crisis and transition from Education in Emergencies to include disaster risk reduction, collaboration on the identification of experts, and joint outreach to partners.

UNESCO brings interdisciplinary knowledge and networks at local, regional and global levels that can be mobilized in response to increasingly complex crisis situations. For more information: https://en.unesco.org/themes/crisis-preparedness-and-response
