10:00-11:30 Arab Latinos

“Arab Latinos” is an innovative UNESCO programme that highlights the specific intercultural encounter between the Arab States and the Latin America and Caribbean region and its socio-cultural impacts. Beyond the usual reductive stereotypes of “Latinos” and “Arabs”, the programme aims at emphasizing the richness and complexities of these multicultural groups. It also promotes the diversity of artistic and intellectual expressions against stereotypes and discriminations by strengthening contemporary intercultural initiatives between both regions, while contributing to human, social and economic development.
12:00-13:30 Unmasking Racism in and through education

The struggle against any form of racism is a central element of UNESCO’s work to build peace in the minds of men and women, notably through global citizenship education (GCED) which seeks to strengthen understanding and solidarity among peoples. From an educational perspective, confronting intolerance begins with supporting responsible citizenship and commitment to human rights. Therefore, UNESCO now releases Unmasking Racism, Guidelines for Educational Materials a report about how racism may be conveyed, and also dealt with in textbooks and new guidance for education stakeholders on how to fully address the issue.
15:00-16:30 Creative and Inclusive Expressions of Afro-descendant Youth in Central America

This side-event will bring together young people of African descent from Central America representing civil society organizations, governments and intergovernmental agencies to share experiences, good practices and lessons learned in the fight against racism and discrimination from new inclusive, innovative, creative and cultural narratives based on youth perspectives and intergenerational dialogues.
17:00-18:30 Launch event of the Global Coalition Against Systemic Racism and Reparations

The Global Coalition against Systemic Racism and Reparations is a collective effort developed by civil society organizations with the cooperation of public, private, political, social, business, cultural and productive actors, to help eradicate racism and its consequences. This global platform was presented in the framework of the first commemoration of the International Day of People of African Descent, on August 31st of 2021, in the official commemoration organized by the government of Costa Rica with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations System

9:30-11:00 Tools against discourses of racism and discrimination in communication: experiences from Mexico

The United Nations have historically promoted international cooperation against racism and discrimination, in this area UNESCO, together with scientists and institutions from around the world, demonstrated the scientific falsehood of racist theories, dismantling the concept of race in the 1950s of the 20th century. Humanity is currently facing an upsurge in racism, discrimination and hatred, and the responses must be collective. This panel brings together voices from the United Nations System in Mexico, civil society (RacismoMX and Poder Prieto) and the media to share tools and experiences that promote the recognition and promotion of the diversity of social and cultural realities, based on dignity, in order to contribute to building a freer, fairer, more equitable and peaceful world.
11:30-13:00 Building a North American Partnership for Racial Equity and Inclusion
Organizer(s): The North American Leaders' Summit (Canada, Mexico, United States)
In this roundtable in the framework of the UNESCO Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination, government officials of Canada, Mexico and the United States, as well as civil society leaders from the three countries will discuss and exchange on cooperation methods to boost multi-sectoral efforts to eliminate systemic racism, discrimination and hate, and build a trilateral Partnership for racial equity and inclusion in North America.
14:30-16:00 An anti-racist company: Is that possible?

The side event organized by COPRED in Mexico City seeks to follow up on the signing of the Anti-Racist Agreement signed by the companies that belong to the Gran Acuerdo por el Trato Igualitario (GATI by its acronym in Spanish), in order to provide them tools and good practices that they could implement in their workplaces.
16:30-18:00 Youth Cafe - Intergenerational dialogue to fight racism and discrimination
