Guest Wi-Fi Privacy Notice and Terms of Use

By using UNESCO’s guest wireless network service (the “Guest Wireless Network Service”), you acknowledge and agree that there are significant security, privacy and confidentiality risks inherent in accessing or transmitting information through the internet, whether the connection is facilitated through wired or wireless technology. Security issues include, without limitation, interception of transmissions, loss of data, and the introduction or viruses and other programs that can corrupt or damage your computer.

UNESCO is committed to protecting personal data in line with its Principles on Personal Data Protection and Privacy. By using the Guest Wireless Network Service, you acknowledge and agree that UNESCO will process data relating to you and your use of the Guest Wireless Network Service, including MAC address, IP address, and the domain and timestamp of websites visited (“traffic logs”).   

UNESCO will store this data securely and retain user traffic logs for one month only. UNESCO will process and share this data with our agents or service providers in order to provide access to and monitor the Guest Wireless Network Service and to prevent unauthorized use of the Guest Wireless Network Service.

UNESCO will not share, rent, or sell personal data to others for marketing purposes. UNESCO retains the right to share the data processed with any government or regulatory authority that may request UNESCO to do so in relation to your use of the Guest Wireless Network Service for illegal or criminal activity.

By using the Guest Wireless Network Service, you agree to comply with these Terms of Use. If at any time you do not agree with or are unable to comply with any of these terms, you must immediately cease all use of the Guest Wireless Network Service.

You agree to comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations while using the Guest Wireless Network Service, and not to use the Guest Wireless Network Service for any purpose that, inter alia, is fraudulent, unlawful, defamatory, obscene, offensive, abusive, exploitative, harassing, discriminatory, malicious or harmful in nature.

You agree to use the Guest Wireless Network Service access responsibly and with full regards to the safety, security, and privacy of all other users, devices and resources connected to the Guest Wireless Network Service. You further agree not to use the Guest Wireless Network Service for any purpose that is inconsistent with the values of the United Nations or harms the credibility or reputation of the United Nations or of UNESCO.

Any failure by you to comply with these terms may result in the suspension or termination of your access to the Guest Wireless Network Service

Suspension or termination of the Guest Wireless Network Service

UNESCO reserves the right at any time to suspend, limit or discontinue the Guest Wireless Network Service without notice and without providing reasons.

UNESCO further reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your access to the Guest Wireless Network Service without notice and without providing reasons.

No warranties

UNESCO provides the Guest Wireless Network Service to you "as is". UNESCO expressly disclaims any and all warranties, express or implied, regarding the Guest Wireless Network Service, including, but not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. UNESCO does not warrant that the Guest Wireless Network Service will meet your requirements or operate uninterrupted or error free.

You agree that UNESCO will not assume any responsibility if information you transmit across using the Guest Wireless Network Service is accessed, altered or corrupted. You also agree that UNESCO will not assume any responsibility for any unauthorized access to your computer, or the introduction of any virus or other harmful code, that may result from your use of the Guest Wireless Network Service.

You assume the full risk of any and all damage or loss from the use of, or inability to use, the Guest Wireless Network Service.

Indemnity

Under no circumstances shall UNESCO, its officials, agents, employees be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages that result in any way from the use of or inability to use the Guest Wireless Network Service Services.

By using the Guest Wireless Network Service, you agree to indemnify, hold and save harmless and defend, at your own expense, UNESCO, its officials, agents and employees from any and all suits, claims, demands and liability of any nature or kind, including their costs and expenses, arising from such use. UNESCO is not responsible for loss of any data due to service interruptions, technical reasons or negligence on part of the user or for any commercial transactions undertaken by a user while using the Guest Wireless Network Service.

Privileges and immunities

Nothing in or relating to these terms shall be deemed a waiver, express or implied, of any of the privileges and immunities of UNESCO and no provision of these terms shall be interpreted or applied in a manner, or to an extent, inconsistent with such privileges and immunities.

UNESCO reserves the right to update or modify the above Privacy Notice and Terms of Use at any time without prior notice. The use of the Guest Wireless Network Service following any such update or modification constitutes your agreement to follow and be bound by these terms as modified. For this reason, we encourage users to review these terms whenever using the Guest Wireless Network Service.
