SDG4 Youth & Student Network

A platform for youth and students to take action for SDG4 Education 2030

As one of the key stakeholders in education, youth and students are key partners in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) on ensuring quality education for all.

The SDG4 Youth & Student Network is an inclusive, and representative platform of youth and student groups designed to ensure their meaningful participation in shaping global education policies within the renewed Global Education Cooperation Mechanism (GCM) and the global apex body for education—the SDG4-Education 2030 High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC). The Network is tasked with championing and taking forward the Youth Declaration on Transforming Education.

Key achievements

Members of the SDG4 Youth & Student Network are activists, advocates, elected student representatives, leaders, students, school leaders, teachers, and young professionals who are actively working within youth and student organizations in their local and national communities to improve the quality and accessibility of education.

These are just a few examples of the impactful actions and advocacy undertaken by members of the SDG4 Youth & Student Network:

  • Published policy briefs and articles on a range of education issues including gender and disability inclusion, education in emergencies, higher education and sustainability.

  • Led trainings and ensured the inclusion of youth voice at regional and global forums.

  • Actively developed the Global Youth Initiative, in collaboration with partners.

Members are leaders of student or youth organization working to advance the SDG4 goal and its targets and:

  • Range in age from 18–29 years old

  • Are actively working to contribute to the Education 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

  • The leadership/decision-making body of their organization or group is composed of over 50% people under the age of 29.

  • Are in non-for-profit organizations
